“DON CA TAI TU” – VIETNAM SOUTHERN TRADITIONAL FOLK MUSIC

Coming to the Southwest of Vietnam, we will deem to mingle with nature, temporarily forget daily busy life.

“DON CA TAI TU”, an intangible cultural heritage of the world has especially settled in human heart, contributed to forming the soul of the Rustic Southwest. Through years of ups and downs, these songs still sound, express the Southwest people’s love.

“DON CA TAI TU” are compiled on the basis of elegant music, royal music, folk music of Central and South. These songs are constantly being reformed from 72 ancient songs and especially from 20 principal songs (compositions) for 4 (tunes), including 6 BAC songs (express joyfulness, liberity), 7 HA songs (used in sacrifice, in dignified manner), 3 NAM songs (express comfort, elegance) and 4 OAN songs (express the scene of sadness, separation).

Coming to the Southwest to enjoy “dạ cổ hoài lang” of the deceased musician Cao Van Lau in the middle of silent night, the sad sound of the monochord mixing with the rhythm of “song loan”, we shall feel calm down and silent strangely.

This art is an indispensable spiritual food of the people here. Drinking a cup of tea or a glass of wine and listening to DON CA TAI TU is a great enjoyment.
